We want to highlight the upcoming Encontro de Afluentes, organised by GEOTA via its Rios Livres programme, which will take place on 24 and 25 November at the premises of FLAD – Fundação Luso‑Americana.
This event offers an excellent opportunity to engage with the latest thinking, practice, and policy around rivers, their ecological functions, threats, and restoration.
Key themes & objectives:
-
To bring together researchers, practitioners, civil society actors, and policy-makers focused on tributaries (“afluentes”) and their connections to main rivers.
-
To explore challenges in rivers’ ecology, connectivity, barrier removal, restoration of natural flow regimes, ecosystem services, and community engagement.
-
To foster knowledge exchange and collaborative work across disciplines and sectors, including academia, NGOs, public authorities, and local communities.
